Super Seth mare salutes at Flemington for Waikato Stud

A half-sister to A$5.2 million-earning Group 1-winning mare Icebath, progressive Super Seth mare Superfabulistic stepped out on the big stage at Flemington on Saturday.

A homebred for Waikato Stud, who stood her sire Super Seth before his recent acquisition by Coolmore Australia, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Superfabulistic has been running well in Benchmark races in Sydney and handled the step to a Benchmark 84 event over 1600m to win as she pleased.

Rachel King gave the mare a beautiful ride and she dashed away to win by two and a half lengths.

Adrian Bott summed the race up perfectly when asked about the performance.

“A lovely, easy watch,” Bott said.

“She’s such an honest mare for us. She tries hard and she was incredible again today. Rachel put her into the race, and she was able to do the rest from there.

“(The barrier) gave Rachel a few options even though she had tactical speed there today, she was able to have a few options and was able to control the speed.

“It looked like a nice, even tempo throughout. I liked how strong she was late, and she will be better as she gets over further. Over the last furlong she really knuckled down and pulled away late.”

Gai Waterhouse was also delighted with the manner of the victory and confident enough to tell owner Mark Chittick (Waikato Stud) to follow that feeling.

“She’s very talented, this mare,” she said. “I rang Mark (Chittick), and I said, ‘ Put your money on it.”

“They’ve been very supportive of us, and she made mincemeat of them, didn’t she?”

Superfabulistic has a way to go to emulate the success of her sibling Icebath, but has a bright future. With four wins and five placings from 10 starts and more than A$200,000 in prizemoney, Superfabulistic has the pedigree to suggest she will just keep improving.

Superfabulistic is the seventh winner from eight foals to race from terrific producer Fabulist, a five-time winner by Savabeel that has left Gr.1 VRC Empire Rose Stakes winner Icebath, Group 3 winner Courier Wonder, stakes-winner Nowyousee and Group 2-placed Just Fabulous.

Super Seth is set to stands his first Australian season at a fee of $137,500 including GST
