Young stallion maintains high standard

Super Seth’s pulling power was again a major feature during the closing session of New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale on Thursday afternoon while a son of associate stallion Ardrossan also lit up the ring.

The buying bench at Karaka was again won over by the progeny of Waikato Stud’s Super Seth, with Laming Racing and John White Bloodstock securing the Kilgravin Lodge-offered filly (Lot 298) for
$700,000.

“She was a standout on looks. She was one of my top picks, and we valued her up to $600,000 and had to go a little bit more than that, but we’ve got a really nice filly,” Cranbourne trainer Richard Laming said.

“She’s a proper horse. She’s got a nice action, she breezed up great. She has a very good attitude and was nice and relaxed in the ring, so we’re very happy to get her.

“We like Super Seth. We’ve got a couple we bought as yearlings that go well.”

We came over here to buy another nice one, and she’s got a great pedigree and great residual. She’s an outstanding individual.

“She’s a half to a Group One winner who’s a very good horse, so she’s got that scope to hopefully show some of her brother’s ability.”

The filly is out of the Makfi mare Vitesse, who is the dam of last season’s G1 Queensland Derby winner Kovalica.

Vitesse is a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winner The Bostonian and the G3 Championship Stakes winner Cheval D’Or, with the 10-time elite level winner Mufhasa, a member of this family.

A pair of Waikato Stud Super Seth graduates also sold well, with Lot 222 knocked down to Morgan Carter Bloodstock on behalf of Hong Kong interests for $310,000.

Offered by Riversley Park, the gelding is a son of the Savabeel mare Savodara and under the second dam is the G1 Avondale Gold Cup winner Sharvasti and Bhandara, Shastri and Eric The Eel, all successful at Group 3 level.

Also offered by Riversley Park was Lot 269, whose immediate pedigree features the Group 1 winners The Chosen One, The Jewel and La Diosa, who went to Hong Kong interests for $260,000.

Earlier today, Pertab Racing offered Ardrossan’s son (Lot 198), and he was the subject of spirited bidding before Hong Kong buyer Me Tsui had the final say at $440,000 for the gelded half-brother to the G3 Rotorua Stakes winner Pop Star Princess.

A colt (Lot 294) from the draft of Riversley was another popular youngster, and he sold to New South Wales interests for $325,000.

He is out of the Rusty Spur mare Venetian Raider, who won on nine occasions and was stakes placed, and the family of the G1 South Australian Oaks winner Cimarra.

Lot 139 from Prima Park was the only other Ardrossan juvenile in the auction, and she went to Mick Price Racing and Breeding for $100,000.

The filly is a daughter of Miss Rule, and the Bachelor Duke mare is a half-sister to stakes winner Secret Liaisons, who is the dam of the G1 TJ Smith Stakes winner Reigning To Win.
