Headline act bound for Hong Kong

Pre-auction expectations were high for a son of Savabeel with the looks to compliment his pedigree and Waikato Stud wasn’t disappointed as Lot 409 left the ring on the second day of trade at Karaka.

The well-related colt provided today’s highlight for the Matamata nursery when he sold to Boomer Bloodstock’s Craig Rounsefell for $620,000.

“We bought this Savabeel colt for the Hong Kong Jockey Club, so he’ll join our team and head to the International Sale in a couple of years’ time,” Rounsefell said.

“He was one of our main targets in this sale after inspections. Just on physical, he was top of the pops for us. In terms of pedigree, it’s a beautiful cross that’s already proven and a great family.

“Waikato Stud is the best-producing farm in New Zealand, so there weren’t many negatives at all.

“I think he’s a horse that’s going to improve with time, which is what we’re looking for, those horses that continue to get better with age.

“Savabeel is a champion stallion and this horse looks spot on for what we’re looking to buy.”

The youngster is a brother to Forgot You, a dual Australian Group 2 winner and third in the Rosehill Guineas, with their dam the O’Reilly mare Simply You.

They are grandsons of the farm’s two-time Group 1-winner Glamour Puss whose half-brother Vision And Power also claimed a brace of top-level titles while half-sister Rare Insight produced the G1 Coolmore Classic winner Steps In Time.

Family member Espiona also claimed an edition of the Coolmore while Acting won the G2 Thousand Guineas Prelude.

Super Seth has made a flying start to his stallion career and the momentum continued on Monday with his son, Lot 448, selling to trainer John O’Shea Racing and James Bester Bloodstock for $325,000.

The colt’s dam Suavito was an outstanding performer who was successful at Group 1 level in the Futurity Stakes and the Orr Stakes.

She is a half-sister to the G3 winner and Group 1 performer Sultan Of Swing and to the dam of the multiple Group 3 winner Diss Is Dramatic.

A number of respected judges chased Lot 302 before he sold for $440,000 with Paul Moroney Bloodstock, Catheryne Bruggeman and Go Bloodstock signing the ticket.

The Savabeel colt is the first foal of the Pins mare Pendant, who won on five occasions and placed in the G3 Summoned Stakes.

The second dam My Locket is a half-sister to the G1 Queensland Oaks winner Miss Keepsake and Vilifye, who triumphed in an edition of the G2 Japan-New Zealand International Trophy.
