Super Seth Colt Impresses on Debut

Stakes goals are already on the radar for Super Seth’s latest success story Super Photon.

The Waikato Stud graduate bolted home at the first time of asking over 1200 metres at Rotorua with the Matamata farm bred and raced Magice also returning a pleasing run for second on debut.

The runner-up is a son of Savabeel with Glenn Old and a brother to Super Seth’s associate sire Noverre.

Trained by Stephen Marsh, Super Photon had placed in all three of his trials and jumped well to trail before angling off the fence before the turn and accelerated sharply for rider Joe Doyle to score by 3.3l.

“We were very confident and I loved the way he settled and put them away very quickly,” Marsh said.

“He’s a colt with a bright future and we though that if he won, he could go to Te Rapa for the stakes race (Listed, Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre, 1400m).

“He would then go for a spell and maybe set him for the Hawke’s Bay Guineas (G2, 1400m) and the 2000 Guineas (G1, 1600m).”

The fifth individual winner for Super Seth from 15 runners, Super Photon is a half-brother to the dual Group 1 winner Mo’unga with their dam the stakes performed O’Reilly mare Chandelier.

“He’s a lovely colt and we paid a lot of money for him, he’s beautifully bred,” Marsh said.

Super Photon was purchased at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $380,000 and his three-year-old half-brother by Savabeel, the as yet unraced Hey Bro’unga, made $1 million at Karaka in 2022.

Chandelier produced a filly by Savabeel last year and is back in foal to Super Seth.
