Ocean Park’s son scores in HK
Ninja Derby has posted an overdue victory in Hong Kong with his first success over 1800 metres at Happy Valley.
The son of Ocean Park posted two wins and a brace of placings during his brief Australian career for trainers Ben and JD Hayes before he relocated to their father David’s stable.
He is now prepared by Tony Cruz and broke through last evening in the hands of Matthew Chadwick off the back of a previous runner-up finish over a mile.
Ninja Derby was bred by Waikato Stud with Trevor Luke and Kim and Peter McKay and was sold on their behalf by Stonehouse Thoroughbreds at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale for A$90,000 to Lindsay Park Racing.
He is a son of the late Fastnet Rock mare Pastrana, who produced her final foal to Ocean Park last season.
Pastrana’s family features the G1 Toorak Handicap winner Attrition, the G1 TJ Smith Stakes winner Sizzling and the G1 Rosehill Guineas winner D’Argento.
