Overdrawn on right side of ledger

The Tony Pike-trained Overdrawn produced a tenacious display at Ellerslie to further his
record.
A son of Shamexpress, he accounted for his Rating 65 opposition over 1300 metres after
covering plenty of extra ground from the outside barrier.
“That really was a good, tough win, he didn’t have a soft trip and had to sit three deep,” Pike
said.
A previous third when resuming at Hastings, Overdrawn couldn’t get near the fence from his
horror gate before improving from midfield across the top.
Part-owned by Waikato Stud, the four-year-old finished determinedly in the hands of the in-
form Matthew Cartwright post his second victory from a handful of appearances.
“He’s come back a lot stronger this time and his first-up run at Hawke’s Bay was good,” Pike
said.
“He likes Ellerslie, so I think we’ll keep coming back here for the good prizemoney.”
Pike purchased Overdrawn out of Windsor Park Stud’s draft at Karaka for $150,000 and is a
son of the Northern Meteor mare Max It Out, also the dam of the Listed Southland Guineas
winner Press Charges.
