Super run by Seth’s son

There was honour in defeat this afternoon for Feroce in his bid to credit his Waikato Stud-based sire Super Seth with a maiden Group 1 victory.

The progressive three-year-old finished a gallant and luckless runner-up in the Caulfield Guineas for tyro trainer Dominic Sutton.

Feroce was given a sweet run in the trail by rider Billy Egan and was into the clear too late in the run home

“It was a very brave run. He still does a little bit wrong early on the bridle, but he was strong through the line,” Egan said.

Feroce was coming off a lead-up fourth in the G3 Guineas Prelude and now has a brace of victories and three placings from his seven appearances.

Options now include the Gr.1 Spring Champion Stakes and the Gr.3 Carbine Club Stakes while connections are also interested in gaining a slot in the NZB Kiwi.

Bred by Pencarrow Stud, he was purchased out of Kilgravin Lodge’s New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale draft for $160,000 by Sutton and McKeever Bloodstock.

Feroce is a son of the unraced O’Reilly mare Corinthia and is a half-brother to the Listed Karaka Classic winner Siracusa and a member of the famed Eight Carat family.
