Bonny result for glamour mare
Bonneval was a star on the track with her seven wins featuring Group 1 victories in the New Zealand and Australian Oaks and Underwood Stakes.
On the two-time Horse of the Year’s retirement, the daughter of Makfi was secured privately by Garry Chittick and her broodmare career has now gained winning momentum.
Her first foal to race is Mary Eliza, who was successful in the Waikato Stud colours at Mornington on Wednesday afternoon after finishing third on debut at Seymour last month.
Trained by Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, the Super Seth filly settled third on the fence before rider Zac Spain angled her into clear air at the top of the straight.
The three-year-old let down strongly in the run home for a convincing victory over 1500 metres.
“She’s done a good job and I was really pleased with the way she stretched out late,” Coleman said.
“She’s always shaped as a filly who will get over a bit of ground.
“She has taken a little while to mature and when you’ve got an ownership group like the Chittick family they are happy to wait.”
The first colt produced by Bonneval is a son of Noverre.
