Sun Gift continues hot form

Savabeel

Progressive mare Sun Gift possesses a rich staying pedigree and she produced an impressive performance to score over 2400 metres at Geelong on Wednesday for trainer Danny O’Brien.

The Waikato Stud-bred and raced daughter of champion sire Savabeel took care of her BenchMark 64 rivals with ease to win for the third time from her last four appearances.

Sun Gift settled at the tail end of the field before rider Damian Lane urged her around runners 600 metres from home.

They were widest into the straight and the four-year-old finished far too well for her opposition to triumph by three-quarters of a length.

“She’s been a mare we’ve always had an opinion of, and she’s done a super job this preparation,” stable representative Jack Howard said.

“It’s so good to get a win for Waikato Stud and the Chittick family, they’ve been great supporters of ours.”

Sun Gift is a daughter of the unraced Pour Moi mare Sunniva, who is a half-sister to the three-time Group 1 winner Efficient, and her son of Savabeel sold to O’Brien at last year’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale for $120,000.
