Patch Of Cosmo shines in Hong Kong for Seth

A super winning streak for Super Seth continued into Sunday with his Waikato Stud-bred son Patch Of Cosmo (ex Thee) notching up his fourth win for the Hong Kong season at Sha Tin on Sunday, 9 March.

Three-year-old Patch Of Cosmo denied some BMW Hong Kong Derby hopefuls a place in this year’s field sweeping past the older horses with authority and announcing himself as one to follow for next year’s edition, with the focus heading into the Class 3 event over 1600m on the four-year-olds: odds-on favorite Light Years Charm, Embraces and Brilliant Express.

He is the first foal of the Savabeel mare Thee whose dam, the dual stakes winner Thy is a three-quarter sister to the two-time Group 1 winner The Jewel and a half-sister to the G1 10,00 Guineas winner La Diosa.

After two wins over 1,200 metres in age-restricted company to start the season, Patch Of Cosmo won at 1,400 metres in January but it was a step up to the mile for the first time that seems to have unlocked the horse’s potential.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon another son of Super Seth turned heads by the name of Sanctified, who ran a good third in the Gr.3 Black Opal Stakes in Canberra for Gerald Ryan and Stirling Alexiou, taking Super Seth’s winners’ tally for the week to four winners and a Group-placed colt:

  • Linebacker (3g): Gr.1 Randwick Guineas winner – bred by GSA bloodstock, sold by Haunui
  • Patch Of Cosmo (3g, ex Thee): winner in Hong Kong
  • Kilman (2c, ex Thy): winning debut at Warwick Farm on Wednesday for Chris Waller
  • Sprezzatura (3f): won on Friday at Te Aroha for Shaune Ritchie and Colm Murray – bred by Pencarrow
  • Sanctified (2c): third in the Gr.3 Black Opal Stakes – bred by Jamieson Park, sold by Lime Country

It’s a phenomenal start for the Gr.1 Caulfield Guineas winner with stakes winners in both racing crops and striking at 9.2% Stakes winners to runners and 6.2% Group winners to runners.
