Stable Tours: O’Shea/Charlton have a lovely mix of proven and potential ahead of the spring

Written by Dane McLeod of The Thoroughbred Report

In this instalment of Stable Tours, TTR AusNZ chatted with Tom Charlton, who trains with John O’Shea, to learn about the campaigns of proven performers Linebacker (Super Seth) and Athabascan, as well as gain insight into the stable’s young stock.

Linebacker, 4-year-old gelding (Super Seth x Garden Of Swans (GB) {Oasis Dream {GB}})

“We couldn’t be happier with him, he won a trial very nicely this morning and has come back well. He is a big, strong, powerful horse who has done very well physically in his break.”

“He isn’t screwed down and is still quite big, so he may benefit from his first couple of runs, but he will be targeting The Epsom third up, possibly going through the Tramway and then the Bill Ritchie.”

Scoop The Pool, 3-year-old gelding (Super Seth x Rosa Vernans (Ire) {Sea The Stars {Ire}})

“We really like him, he raced well at Rosehill in Saturday grade on his debut. He is a very agile horse, good action and good talent.

“He has a strong female line, and he looks like he may stay. He could possibly run next weekend at Warwick Farm over 1400 metres, and he could become a 2000 metres in time. Once he gets there, he will tell us if he could get over even further.”
