Strongside super second-up for O’Shea-Charlton

There was plenty to like about Strongside’s performance at Wyong on Sunday, 31 August, when the full brother to Gr.1 Randwick Guineas winner Linebacker carried Ron Finemore’s colours to a determined victory. Other prominent owners include Carl Holt and Francis and Christine Cook, along with the Millers, Prairie Racing , D Hines, M Angelos, C Briggs, S Miller, M S Riley, S Young, E Elmowy and A Harmanis,

The son of Super Seth, trained by John O’Shea and Tom Charlton, was stepping up to 1625m for the first time and thrived over the extra ground.

He fought hard in the finish, prevailing by a head before putting a clear margin of five lengths on the remainder of the field and proved too strong for the well-fancied Golden Century, last season’s Gr.1 New Zealand Derby placegetter.

A $80,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft, Strongside is the third winner produced by Garden Of Swan and was bred by Jonathan Munz’s GSA Bloodstock, who raced Super Seth.

Super Seth continues to make headlines through the O’Shea–Charlton stable, who have already celebrated major success with his progeny, including Linebacker and Gr.1 Queensland Derby winner Maison Louis.

Super Seth is the only New Zealand-based sire to achieve four Group 1 winners from his first two racing seasons, following elite-level wins by La Dorada (ex Gold Fever), Linebacker, Feroce and Maison Louis. He stands this season at $75,000 plus GST (LFG).
