A winning Trans-Tasman Wednesday for Ardrossan

Trainers, breeze-up consignors and Hong Kong trainers have already clocked onto Ardrossan‘s stock, battling it out in the yearling sales ring earlier this year, with the trend starting at the end of 2025 at the breeze-up sales.

And there’s no questioning why. Every week, the son of Redoute’s Choice continues to produce winner after winner, after winner. On Wednesday in New Zealand and Australia, it was no different, siring doubles at Woodville and Caulfield and concluding the day with four winners and a second from just six runners.

Two-year-old filly O’Baby, trained by Kertis Pertab, and five-year-old mare Sindee, for Allan Sharrock, took out races three and five respectively in New Zealand.

O’Baby’s crop of ’23 has had nine runners for three winners, three stakes horses and the pre-Christmas stakes winner, De Armas.

At Caulfield, Cardi Bee, a four-year-old mare, saluted in Race 2 over 1500m for Ciaron Maher, recording her third career win from 10 race starts.

The Waikato Stud-bred three-year-old Parvenu (ex Wannabe) saluted for Grahame Begg in Race 5 over 1800m, recording a metro double for Ardrossan in the process.

The filly is accumulating a nice race record of four starts for two wins and a placing – interestingly all on differing surfaces ranging from Heavy, through the Soft range and on a Good 4.

One to watch is the three-year-old gelding Speedy Crown, who, in the Wanless colours, produced a good debut effort for second in Queensland.

Ardrossan’s yearlings sold for up to $450,000, with buyers including Bjorn Baker, Ciaron Maher, Cliff Brown, Matt Laurie, Sheamus Mills, the Shailer Racing team, loyal local supporters Wexford Stables and ready-to-run consignor Ohukia Lodge to name but a few.

He will stand for an unchanged fee of $20,000 plus GST, with breeders this season set to benefit from the better and bigger books ahead of them.
