Baker and Clarke uncover another Super Seth standout

Bjorn Baker and Clarke Bloodstock (FBAA) appear to have unearthed another star by Super Seth, this time with the Waikato Stud-bred two-year-old filly Shirley’s Tribute, who won with ease at Bathurst on Monday, 21 July, at her first start.

With five trials under her belt, the filly jumped from barrier five, sitting in the back of the field, looping them on the turn and running away to win by 1.37 lengths. She recorded her sire’s 44th individual winner and fourth winner from his second crop, which includes Group 1 winner La Dorada (ex Gold Fever), also out of a Savabeel mare.

Offered by Waikato Stud at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Baker and bloodstock agent Jim Clarke secured the daughter of Super Seth for A$225,000, the duo having great success with the three-year-old son of Super Seth in Puntin, a four-time winner who’s yet to be out of the money in all seven starts.

Out of the Group-performing Savabeel mare Date Night, she is the fourth foal and a full sister to the winning three-year-old Couples Retreat for the Archibald Racing stable.

Super Seth is set to be crowned Champion NZ Second Season Sire after being awarded the Champion NZ First Season Sire award last season. He sits fifth on the Australian Second Season Sires’ table with progeny earnings of A$4,643,270 – impressive for a sire who does not stand in that jurisdiction.
