Bring on 2026 – Karaka Here We Come!
With the recent release of the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale catalogue, a time-honoured sale that will be conducted for the 100th time, Waikato Stud is proud to consign 55 Book 1 yearlings and a further 22 Book 2 yearlings.
Awarded the 2025 NZ Breeder of the Year, an accolade bestowed on Waikato Stud for the 11th time, the farm was also as acknowledge for being the breeder of NZ Champion 2yo Filly La Dorada (pictured below), herself one of a host of G1-winning graduates carrying the WS-brand sold at the National sale.

While it would be near impossible, and result in a slightly long news story if we were to to go through each of the 77 yearlings and highlight them, it’s worth jotting down a few that stand out on pedigree.
Of the 13 by Champion Sire Savabeel in our draft, Lot 452 is the full-brother to NZ Champion 3YO Savaglee, a winner of the G1 NZ Two Thousand Guineas and also a graduate of our 2023 National draft.
Already the sire of four individual G1 winners from his first two crops to race, Super Seth leads the way in our draft with 19 lots, highlighted by Lot 448, a bay colt out of a sister to our dual G1-winning National yearling sale graduate Mo’unga and his Super Seth half-brother, the Listed winner Super Photon, a three-quarter-brother to this colt.
With 16 by Ardrossan being offered, we struggled to make a choice between two with Lot 200 being a half-sister to NZ Champion 3YO Aegon from the family of Atishu and Savaglee, all graduates of our previous National yearling sale drafts, while Lot 413 is a half-brother to G1 Empire Rose Stakes winner Icebath as well as stakes performers Courier Warrior, Nowyousee and Just Fabulous.
From the second crop of Noverre, himself the third highest priced yearling sold at the 2020 sale where he topped our draft when selling for $800,000, we will offer five of his yearlings highlighted by Lot 197, the half-sister Triptonic, a graduate of the farm who secured success in both the G1 Zabeel Classic and G1 Herbie Dyke Stakes.
With a NZB National yearling honour roll which includes the likes of G1 winners Atishu, La Dorada, Savaglee, Mo’unga, Probabeel, Triptonic, Kukeracha, Noverre, Aegon, Amarelinha, Madison County, and Savvy Coup to name a few, there are a host of opportunities for buyers to secure an outstanding yearling carrying the famed WS-brand.
