Eighth Stakes Winner For Super Seth

Having contested black type races at her last four start with her best effort coming last time out when an unlucky fourth in the G3 Vanity Stakes behind Sheza Alibi, 3yo SUPER SETH filly Ruska Roma dropped back in class to win the Listed Twilight Glow Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield in style.

Wearing the famed red and white striped silks of owner breeder Jonathan Munz, who also raced Super Seth himself to success in the G1 Caulfield Guineas, Ruska Roma sat in fourth on the rail with the short-priced favourite on her outside.

As Godolphin’s Sketch took the field into the home straight, it appeared as if the favourite was struggling slightly as she wobbled around the turn, which allowed Jordan Childs aboard Ruska Roma to come to the outside of the leading duo.

Taking the lead with 100m to run, Ruska Roma pulled clear to record victory by a length and a quarter, her first at black type level.

“She’s always shown us ability,” said trainer Grahame Begg.

“Her first start in a race she ran third behind Planet Red, who ran second in the Guineas, Observer, ran second and who won the Derby and she ran third.

“She deserved that Listed win. She’s been running well right throughout the spring but hasn’t had a lot of luck in her races.

“The other day, it was a tragedy that she didn’t finish closer to Sheza Alibi as she got held up to the 100 metres and we all saw what Sheza Alibi did in the Sandown Guineas.

“It’s great for Jonathan Munz and Pinecliff Racing. He bred her. She’s a homebred and it’s very important to get a Listed win on the board. I’m sure there’s plenty more.”

With 47 yearlings by Super Seth available at January’s NZB National yearling sale (Book 1 and Book 2), buyers will have plenty of opportunity to secure one of the first lots of the year to sell from his next crop of yearlings.
