Five Trans-Tasman triumphs, a super week for Super Seth

Saturday at Ellerslie saw Sethito (ex Suavito) kick off a stellar week of Trans-Tasman winners for Super Seth, who heads into this Saturday with two runners in the Gr.1 Australian Guineas.

#1: SETHITO
Bred and raced by Garry Chittick, Sethito – already a Group 3 winner – added a third win to her resume taking out the Listed Trevor Corallie Eagle Uncle Remus Stakes over 1400m at Ellerslie for Wexford Stables’ Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott on Saturday, 22 February.

A daughter of Garry’s dual Group 1-winning Thorn Park mare Suavito, the three-year-old filly will now step up to 1500m for a tilt at the NZB Kiwi next Saturday, racing in the slot of Waikato Thoroughbred Racing on Saturday, 8 March.

#2 DEADLY DESIRE
The momentum continued on Sunday as Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott struck again, with three-year-old filly Deadly Desire claiming victory over 1600m under Craig Grylls in just her fourth start at Pukekohe Park.

#3 MILLE GRAZIE

Across to Australia’s Sandown racetrack, two to keep watch of are Rapid Cheval with the three-year-old filly denied her second career victory by a 0.06-length margin in Race 2 over 1500m for Cranbourne-based trainer Bevan Laming.

In the next, El Tercero (ex Boulevard) for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young was asked to step up from 1000m where he came second to 1300m, another second however working to the line nicely under Jamie Mott.

#4 SUPERNIMA
On Thursday, the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained Supernima added a second win to her six-start resume in Race 6 at Pakenham over 1200m under the brilliant guidance of apprentice jockey Emily Pozman, who too was celebrating a good week having rode her first metropolitan winner on Wednesday.

#5 MAISON LOUIS
The John O’Shea and Tom Charlton-trained Maison Louis put on an impressive 3.01-length show at Goulburn on Friday, 28 February. At just his second start, the son of Super Seth races in the same colours as Atishu (Savabeel ex Posy) for Albert Bosma’s Go Racing – he was sold by Pencarrow Stud at the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale.

GROUP 1 RUNNERS
With five Trans-Tasman winners and two Group 1 runners, Super Seth’s week could go from good to great with two runners in the Gr.1 Australian Guineas: Feroce, runner-up in the Gr.1 Caulfield Guineas and Savour The Dream, making his Group race debut.

Leading the New Zealand Second Season Sires’ Premiership and sitting ninth on the Australian Premiership – having surpassed the million-dollar prizemoney mark in both countries, all eyes are on Super Seth’s progeny as they continue to make their mark across New Zealand and Australia
