Juvenile colt continues Super winning streak for Seth
Warwick Farm saw Chris Waller and James McDonald unearth a smart son of Super Seth in the Waikato Stud-bred Kilman (ex Thy) who was mighty impressive on debut over 1100m on Wednesday, 5 March, giving his trainer a nice birthday gift with the win.
With heavy market support coming in minutes ahead of start time for the son of dual stakes-winning O’Reilly mare Thy, Kilman jumped clear second-favourite behind Farnan colt Grand Eagle who was also on debut.
Jumping from barrier four mid-field, McDonald sat patiently at the back of the field finding a little bit of traffic in the six-horse field. Making their way through the pack, the pair balanced up with McDonald asking the colt for effort at the 100m mark where he responded willingly winning by an easy 0.91 lengths.
The colt came into the race with three nice trials under his belt, McDonald said post-race when asked if he had had much to do with the Super Seth colt: “I have sat on him once before, he’s a good-quality colt, that’s for sure. Obviously these colours have got another good one on their hands.”
Sold by Waikato Stud at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale to Waller Racing and Guy Mulcaster Bloodstock for $360,000, the colt is raced by great supporters of the Waikato Stud stallions – Neville Morgan and David Devine – who have seen success with many great horses, including Kovalica (Ocean Park).
Charlie Duckworth, representing the Waller yard, said of the impressive win: “He was brilliant. He’s obviously trialled very well.”
“He’s done a really good job on debut today. Guy Mulcaster does a good job selecting for Nev Morgan and Dave Devine and he’s found another good one here.”
Kilman’s win continues the winning streak of Super Seth who sired his first Group 1 winner on Saturday with Feroce in the Gr.1 Australian Guineas at Flemington.
Other winners include: Leica Glove (Sunday, 2 March for Paul Shailer), Feroce (Gr.1 Australian Guineas on Saturday, 1 March for Dom Sutton), Maison Louis (Friday, 28 February for John O’Shea and Tom Charlton), Supernima (Thursday, 27 February for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman), Mille Grazie (Wednesday, 26 February for Samantha Logan), Deadly Desire (Sunday, 23 February for Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott), Sethito (Listed win on Saturday, 22 February for Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott).
