Kia Kaha makes a winning return at Te Rapa
Bred by long-time Waikato Stud supporter and friend Gary Wallace, Kia Kaha (Super Seth x Coldplay) continued the upward trajectory of his promising career with an impressive first-up victory at Te Rapa on Saturday.
Having shown ability from the outset when winning on debut as a three-year-old, the son of Super Seth returned from a spell in fine order for trainer Stephen Marsh, producing a bold front-running display to record his second win from just nine starts.
Drawn barrier seven in the 12-horse field, Kia Kaha was positive from the gates and quickly worked his way to the lead. He travelled comfortably throughout before kicking strongly in the straight to score by half a length, giving the impression there is more in store as he continues to mature.
The four-year-old is the first foal from the Savabeel mare Coldplay.
Super Seth was bought by Coolmore Australia and will stand this season at the Magnier family’s Hunter Valley nursery. Coldplay was not covered in 2026 due to foaling complications. Garry Wallace explains the situation and how quick decisions and great teamwork saved his mare.
