Super Gold Coast start for Seth
A first crop representative of Waikato Stud’s Super Seth was the subject of spirited bidding today at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The Matamata nursery’s draft is being sold on its behalf by Royston and Catriona Murphy’s Sledmere Stud and the colt, Lot 194, attracted widespread buyer interest during the second session of the auction.
The battle for the well-credentialled youngster was eventually won by champion trainer Chris Waller and agent Guy Mulcaster with a final bid of A$450,000.
He is of the O’Reilly mare O’Dianne and a family that Waller knows well having trained the colt’s half-brother Paternal for multiple wins and a runner-up finish in the G1 Queensland Derby before his sale to Hong Kong interests.
Meanwhile, a unique offering from Waikato Stud on the opening day realised A$200,000 with the final bid coming from Anthony Cummings.
The Sydney trainer purchased Lot 171, the only yearling on offer at the Gold Coast by champion stallion Savabeel.
The colt boasts an international pedigree with his dam the Shackleford mare Mystery Lake whose pedigree features the North American Group 1 winner Talinum.
It is a family that has also made its mark in this part of the world through the ill-fated G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas winner Atlante.

The Waikato Stud colours were out in force on Saturday, 8 November, and Magice (ex Magic Dancer) continued a wonderful day for Garry Chittick, who bred and races the son of Savabeel and is the full brother to first-season sire Noverre.
