She’s Back…

Super Seth’s Daughter La Dorada Wins G2 Levin Classic

Crowned Champion 2YO last season highlighted by wins in the Karaka 2YO Million, G2 Matamata Breeders Stakes and the G1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes, Super Seth filly La Dorada produced a stunning victory on Saturday to win the G2 Levin Classic (1400m) at Trentham.

Having already showed her talent over the 1400m at Trentham, the place of her elite level score, the Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson-trained filly may have needed the run first up ahead of Saturday’s race.

From her good draw, jockey Craig Grylls took the filly back to mid-field and with some solid pace upfront, it was always going to suit the Te Akau Racing owned La Dorada.

Sticking close to the rail throughout, Grylls started to work into the race rounding the home turn and once in clear running, she sprinted extremely well, chasing down Swiss Prince to record a half-length victory.

“She hopped away okay but there were about five horses that wanted to go hard for the first 100m and I was happy to take a sit, I didn’t want to use up too much,” Grylls said.

“As soon as they crossed us the anchors just went on, it was pretty rough, we all got shuffled back. I have just kept on riding her through, it has all opened up, and what a wicked turn of foot she had. She is back to her best.

“It wasn’t ideal how it worked out but a good horse like that can get you out of sticky situations. She is not big, but she is all heart.”

Co-trainer Bergerson was trackside, really appreciated her finishing burst in the run to the line.

“It was a massive relief, I can’t thank the team enough at home that have done a fantastic job with her,” he said.

“We were scratching our heads after Te Rapa. She did have a good blow after it and we thought there was improvement in her. We kept the work up to her, she has thrived and done really well. We made sure we were up to the mark and it was fantastic to see her bounce back like that.

“When she got shuffled back on the fence and there was no speed, I thought it was going to be a disaster, but it was a great ride and it was great to see her back in form.

“Hopefully she can come through this well and we can crack on to the Karaka Million.”

Sold to Te Akau Racing’s David Ellis at the New Zealand Bloodstock yearling sale through our draft for $190,000, Saturday’s win took her earnings to just over $1.2m.

Likely to head to the Karaka 3YO Million in three weeks’ time in an attempt to record consecutive Karaka Million wins, the filly is a prime example of the quality that can be secured with the WS brand on their shoulder.

“She has got the good attitude where she loves her racing and she is just so tough,” Bergerson said. “I am confident that she can travel home, do everything well, and I am really excited for three weeks’ time.”

We will offer 19 yearlings by Super Seth in our 2026 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale Book 1 draft, which can be viewed HERE.
